Nutrition

More than a meal.

Nourishing bodies. Lifting spirits. Building community. Every meal NCCOA serves is an opportunity to support better health, encourage independence, and help older adults feel connected and cared for.

Program Overview

Good food. Good company. Delivered with care.

From welcoming congregate dining at our Senior Life Centers to home-delivered Meals on Wheels, NCCOA helps older adults across Nassau County access nutritious meals in a caring, supportive environment.

NCCOA's Nutrition Department operates two core meal services for Nassau County residents aged 60 and older — the Congregate Dining Program and Meals on Wheels — along with two supporting programs that extend our reach: Meals on Wheels for Pets and the Tom & Julie Wood Community Pantry, the first senior-focused food pantry in the county.

Two Core Programs

Meals at our table or yours.

Whether you join us at a Senior Life Center for lunch and companionship, or open the door to find a friendly volunteer with a hot meal, every plate carries the same care.

Program One

Congregate Dining

Freshly prepared, chef-inspired meals served Monday through Friday at our Senior Life Centers in Fernandina Beach and Hilliard. More than a nutritious lunch — companionship, engagement, and a sense of belonging.

Participants enjoy

  • Nutritious hot meals
  • Socialization and fellowship
  • Games and recreational activities
  • Educational presentations and guest speakers
  • Health and wellness resources
  • A safe, supportive environment

Note: Clients attending the Congregate Mealsite should be able to feed themselves independently, manage their personal care needs, and participate safely in a group setting.

Program Two

Meals on Wheels

Nutritious, chef-prepared meals delivered directly to homebound seniors who can't attend a congregate location due to illness, disability, or isolation. More than 2,200 meals are delivered every month by dedicated volunteers.

Our drivers do far more than drop off food. They provide friendly interaction, regular wellness checks, and an added layer of safety for vulnerable older adults living alone — often becoming a vital connection to the outside world.

When something seems off, drivers serve as the “eyes and ears” of the program, alerting NCCOA staff so we can connect the client to additional services through our care network.

And because pets are family, our Meals on Wheels for Pets program delivers pet food and basic supplies right alongside Meals on Wheels deliveries — so no senior has to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their companion.

Our Impact

Every meal makes a difference.

Every meal served and every doorstep reached is a reminder: no senior in Nassau County is forgotten.

Made With Care

Fresh from our kitchen.

NCCOA partners with TRIO Community Meals to provide nutrient-rich meals designed to promote health, dignity, and quality of life — while accommodating diverse dietary and cultural needs.

Every meal is prepared and packaged daily in NCCOA's fully operational industrial kitchen. That means freshness, quality, and consistency for seniors across Nassau County — whether they're joining us at a Life Center or opening the door to a volunteer with a warm tray.

Why It Matters

Proper nutrition helps older adults thrive.

Six clear ways the right meal at the right moment changes a senior's day, week, and year.

  • Maintain health and independence
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Reduce food insecurity
  • Improve energy and overall wellness
  • Prevent social isolation
  • Remain safely in their homes longer

NCCOA's Nutrition Program helps older adults age with dignity — and makes sure no senior in Nassau County feels forgotten or alone.
