What We Do
Connecting volunteers to the work that matters.
The Volunteer and Outreach Department connects volunteers with rewarding opportunities that benefit both the senior community and the volunteers themselves — and educates the public about the full range of services NCCOA offers.
NCCOA thrives because of its volunteers. Every hour contributed is a dollar redirected from staffing to programs that reach more seniors — friendly visiting, meal delivery, technology coaching, congregate meal support, social programming, education, and respite for caregivers.

Front Desk Support
Greet members and visitors, share program information, and answer phone calls alongside our front-desk staff.
Meals on Wheels Box Assembly
Weekly team effort to assemble the meal boxes that go out on every route.
Meals on Wheels Driver
Deliver nutritious meals weekly to homebound seniors in Fernandina Beach and Yulee. Prepared in our state-of-the-art kitchen, delivered with a smile.
CHORE Program
Skilled volunteers handle small home repairs, safety grab-bar installations, and wheelchair ramp construction — the hands-on work that keeps aging in place possible.
Soft Touch Pet Therapy
Volunteers and their pets visit The Club every Friday — comfort, stress relief, and a lift to emotional and cognitive well-being.
Special Projects & Events
Senior Expo, Health Fair, Santas for Seniors, the Thanksgiving Luncheon, Great Giveaways, landscaping — the big-team moments that fill out our year.
Support Group Facilitator
Volunteers with specific backgrounds help provide resources and find guest speakers for our ten different support groups — including Low Vision and Hearing Loss.

From the NCCOA Volunteer & Outreach teamCan you imagine literally being trapped in your home as a wheelchair-bound senior? This was the case for one particular senior last year, who had no way of even going outside and sitting in the sun.
Our CHORE team changed her life in just three days. With a clear plan, we gathered materials and coordinated volunteers. Then ten remarkable volunteers united with strength and compassion, dedicating 89.5 hours to build a ramp that would restore her independence.
Now, she thrives — embracing her regained freedom and the joy it brings.
